Dr. Rechab Sylvester Odhiambo
I am a lecturer of Chemistry at the School of Science and Technology, University of Kabianga in Kenya. I’m an alumnus of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology where I studied for both my Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science degrees in Chemistry. I also hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the same university. I have extensive teaching experience in both public and private universities and also had a stint in an institute of technology as a lecturer of chemistry. I hold membership to professional organizations, including the Kenya Chemical Society (KCS), Natural Products Research Network for East and Central Africa (NAPRECA) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). Besides teaching, I have served the department as the Industrial Attachment and Academic Trips Coordinator and I’m also a member of the School of Science and Technology Postgraduate Committee in charge of scheduling and coordinating research proposal and seminar presentations.

I’m passionate about and teach concepts in Organic Chemistry, Organic Synthesis, Chemistry of Natural Products, Stereochemistry and inorganic Chemistry among others
My research interest is in ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry and natural products chemistry, majorly focusing on extraction and isolation of secondary metabolites; evaluating their safety and efficacy as remedies to common health conditions afflicting both humans and livestock and also their applications in crop husbandry. Beyond research and teaching, I’m passionate about mentoring youths and participating in community programmes geared towards uplifting the socio-economic status of the underprivileged.
